USE YOUR VOICE TO CONNECT, CREATE CHANGE, AND MAKE AN IMPACT

And Make Your Mark in One of Media's Fastest Growing & Creative Industries

If you have a message to share, a product or service to promote, or a desire to build a community or make a difference, you probably already know that you need to start your podcast.

And you're absolutely right!

We don't need to repeat what so many others have been telling you, "You need to start a podcast."

After all, you probably already KNOW that having an attractive and professional-sounding podcast is an EXTREMELY effective way to connect with your community, showcase your talents and business, and stand out as an authority in your niche.

You've probably heard that in 2020 the podcasting industry exploded, and 2021 is quickly becoming a turning point in podcasting.

In 2019 large media companies like Spotify and Sony Music invested millions of dollars buying podcast networks, podcast hosting platforms, and podcast shows.

More than ever, brands and businesses are including podcasting in their marketing campaigns. Not just because podcasts are trending, but because of the highly effective performance and low cost of advertisements.

Here's what you might not know

Even if you're already using social media, blogging, or video to connect with an audience, having a podcast can:

DRAMATICALLY INCREASE YOUR AUTHORITY & NOTORIETY IN YOUR NICHE

No other platform works so well at networking and connecting with other podcasters and people in your industry. Your podcast can and will create opportunities for you to be a guest in other shows, speaking opportunities, book deals, valuable partnerships, and other incredible and unexpected opportunities.

PROVIDE A MORE INTIMATE WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOUR AUDIENCE & BUILD TRUST

Unlike video, blogging, or social media, podcasting allows you to create an audio experience that will go right into your listener's ears, creating an instant connection. Having this connection with your audience is incredibly powerful. As a listener, you trust your favorite podcasts hosts' opinions and advice and are more likely to buy products and services they use and recommend. The trust-building aspect of the platform is why celebrities, brands, and businesses are investing millions of dollars in podcast production, advertising, and sponsorship.

10X YOUR NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

There is no other platform of communication with the networking and authority building power of podcasting. We've seen it multiple times. People are more willing to accommodate a podcast interview in their busy schedules than taking a phone call or going for coffee. There are many reasons for this. But the two main reasons are: first, podcasting is a new and fun platform, and second, you provide them with a platform to showcase their talents and projects. A podcast can be the conduit for meeting incredible and well-connected people in your industry. The key is to have a podcast that sounds (and looks) so professional your guests won't pass on the opportunity.

GROW YOUR BUSINESS OR PUSH YOU INTO STARTING A NEW ONE

You can use your podcast to achieve different goals. Some of those goals can be altruistic, like connecting and educating people in your community, showcasing trailblazers and thought leaders in your industry, or sharing your story or talents to benefit others. But you can also have business goals, like promoting your business, services, and products. Podcasting can help you build the know-like-trust factor compelling your potential customers to buy your services and products.

Even more exciting podcasting can be the first step you take towards creating your brand or business. The more you showcase your skills, the more you will realize whether there is a demand.

HELP YOU FIND PURPOSE & FORCE YOU TO STEP INTO YOUR POWER

Something magical happens when you talk into a microphone. You remember that you have a voice and that what you have to say matters. You step into your power, and you know that at that moment, you won't be podcasting just for you. You will be podcasting for an audience—people who will come to you for information, inspiration, advice, and entertainment.

Even though the motivation and benefits of starting a podcast are obvious, the process involved in actually creating one is anything but.

Start a podcast? Fantastic.
But how in the world do I get started?

Maybe after your friend, colleague, or family member told you that you just HAD to start a podcast, you went home and googled, "how to start a podcast."

You took it even a step further than that and went to YouTube, sifted through blog posts, and took notes. You might have even thought up the perfect name for your show and designed a logo for it.

If you're determined, maybe you even purchased a USB microphone, assuring yourself that you'd plug it in and start recording once you "did this or that," or when you "had more free time."

Even with the best intentions, most would-be podcasters end up abandoning the project or putting it on the back burner. And another year goes by without getting their ideas out into the world. All the while, podcasting becoming increasingly popular and competitive.

STAYING ON TRACK IS A MUST.

Here is where most aspiring podcasters postpone the idea of starting a podcast because they feel lost and overloaded with information. They may also decide to jump into launching their podcast without the skills needed, a plan, or strategy. After investing time and money, they ultimately give up on the idea of having a podcast or stop producing their shows after a few episodes. The only people who had the chance to listen was their close friends and family.

This is why doing it right from the beginning, and having a plan is important to create long-lasting results.

I'M READY

The 5 Reasons Most Podcasts Never get off the Ground

& How to Guarantee Yours Will

 1

LACK OF PLANNING & RESEARCH

Anybody can launch a podcast. Technology has made it so easy and accessible that you can even record a podcast using your phone. In fact, a grand majority of podcasters start recording and publishing episodes without doing any market research or competitor analysis, and without having any idea of who their ideal listener is.

The problem with this is that they're shooting in the dark. Chances are they won't find more than a few listeners, and they end up making episodes for only a handful of people. They spend time and money on a project that does not go anywhere or live up to the expectations they had when they started. If you're not going to take the time to plan and research before launching your podcast, then don't be surprised when the only feedback you get is from the crickets.

2

OVERLOOKING THE NEED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION

Setting up social media accounts with the name and logo of your podcast is easy enough. But if you want your podcast to grow, a well-thought-out and executed social media strategy is a must.

Unless you are already a celebrity or have a big following, you will rely on social media to build your audience. As things stand right now, there is a discoverability problem in podcasting. It can be tricky to get discovered on the Podcast Apps and players. At first, the majority of your listeners will come from outside the podcast Apps.

Having a social media strategy is not only critical, but it's also fun. One of the most rewarding parts of starting with your podcast is those first new connections and friendships you build on social.

 3

UNDERESTIMATING THE IMPORTANCE OF SOUND QUALITY

Podcasting is a medium of audio, but because the barrier for entry is so low, the number of podcasts with inferior sound quality is alarming.

Having poor sound quality on a podcast is like having bad writing on a blog, or uncontrolled lighting and choppy editing on a video.

The popularity of podcasting and the advances in technology have made adequate sounding recording equipment very affordable.

However, achieving high-quality sound requires many more steps (with many points of potential problems) than merely plugging in a USB microphone.

4

NOT DEFINING A BRAND THAT SPEAKS TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Branding?!  I just want to record a podcast!

Imagine somebody tells you about a podcast they enjoy. You go online to find it, but you can't find the website, the name is hard to spell or too long, and it's impossible to find on social media.

Your efforts in producing a high-quality podcast and promoting it on social media will go to waste if you have not defined a brand for your podcast.

Branding gives personality to your show and makes it more discoverable. Being consistent with your online presence with colors, logos, fonts, images, and pictures can make your podcast more appealing to your ideal listener and also more discoverable.

Branding also includes the type of music you choose to use on your podcast, the way you talk to your audience, the tone you use to deliver the content, and even the things you say in your intros and outros.

 5

CREATING CONTENT THAT IS TOO PLAIN & ORDINARY

You don't want to create a podcast that looks and sounds just like every other podcast in your niche.

What makes a podcast truly addicting is when it reflects the uniqueness of the hosts and guests.

This can be the most challenging attribute of podcasting:  finding a tone and technique that is relevant to your audience but also true to who you are.

Sure, you can choose to ignore all the moving parts and start podcasting with your phone or any available equipment.

You can choose not to learn about content strategy or market research.

You can choose not to learn about marketing and social media strategy or choose not to learn about audio production and have a podcast that people don't enjoy listening to.

You can watch all the YouTube videos, download all the freebies, and listen to all the podcasts about podcasting, and try to piecemeal the whole process together.

OR YOU CAN CHOOSE TO HAVE:

✨ A roadmap so you know what to focus on instead of trying all things;

✨ The right support from an experienced audio engineer and content marketing expert;

✨ A program with all the skills, knowledge, and tools you need to have raving fans from the moment you launch.

With so many well-produced podcasts and so many choices, you will be competing for your listeners' attention. You need to have a great product, content people will go crazy about, and a social media strategy to support your growth.

The Pod Sound School team is here to help you launch the podcast of your dreams with its podcasting course SMART & SEXY PODCAST LAUNCH.

KICK-START: GEAR-UP & GET READY

We decided to start the course with the fun part of podcasting: choosing and ordering recording gear. We want you to have plenty of time to get familiar and experiment with your recording equipment. In this Kick-start module, we offer you different packages and options to choose from depending on your budget and needs. Our audio engineer Studio Steve will also teach you the fundamentals in audio acoustics and give you options to condition your recording area or studio to help your recordings sound the best. Ordering your recording gear at the beginning of the course will guarantee you'll have it ready for Module 3, where you'll start recording and editing your trailer.

1

I HAVE AN IDEA!  VALIDATING YOUR PODCAST IDEA

Doing market research, content research, and competitor analysis to validate your podcast idea is the smartest thing you can do when planning your podcast. However, it's a step I see many podcasters skipping. I completely understand! You have this idea in your mind about what your podcast should be about and modifying it or completely abandoning it seems unfair. After all, this idea is what inspired you to start a podcast.

But just as you wouldn't launch a product, service, or new business without investigating what's out there, launching a podcast without confirming whether it'll have a demand or listeners seems more unfair.

Especially when there are many tools and tactics you can use to reaffirm whether your idea is first, on-demand, second, not repetitive (nobody else is doing the same), and third, highly searchable online.

In this module, we'll teach you all the steps you need to follow to set your idea in stone.

2

SETTING UP YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE

Having a strong online presence is essential when you're launching a podcast. You want people to be able to find your podcast online easily. Think about it! Your first listeners will be your podcast ambassadors. They will share your podcast with their friends and family. You want people to find your website, social media, and episodes with a simple Google search.

We put together this module to help you set up your online presence and make strategic decisions like:

  • should you have a website for your podcast?
  • Should you use your existing website to host your podcast?
  • Which web host service should I choose to host and distribute my podcast?

3

CREATING, RECORDING, & EDITING PODCAST TRAILER

In this module you will learn the benefits of having a trailer and some best practices when creating one.

We'll show you She'll also share some examples of podcast trailers with you, so you get those creative juices flowing. After that, we'll go over some recording and editing terms, as well as some options.

I will show you how to install a recording software on your computer and how to create and apply an editing and mixing template that will save you a ton of time and make your recordings sound professional. This template can be used on all podcast voices and microphones. I created this template after years of experience in audio production and working with clients to help speed up the editing process.

Finally, you will set up your equipment and record your podcast trailer. You'll be following along as Veronica, who's never used a recording software before, go through all the steps you will go through to record your trailer.

Oh and did we mention you’ll record a TRAILER for your podcast?!

(no pressure)

4

CONTENT STRATEGY & PLANNING EPISODES

In this module, we switch gears a little bit. We'll start the module by revisiting your trailer, finalizing it for export, and uploading it to your podcast hosting site. Then we will distribute your RSS feed to the most popular podcast directories.

Following this lesson, we're going to give you a break from the technical stuff and dive deep into content creation strategy. Now that you're mastering the planning and recording and editing, it's time to create excellent content, content your ideal listener is interested in, and searching for online.

5

RECORDING & EDITING YOUR FIRST EPISODES

It’s all starting to come together.  Putting our episode framework and method to use, you’ll be able to put that overwhelm aside and really enjoy this part of the process.

Here you’ll also sharpen your AUDIO CHOPS and learn some more advanced recording and editing techniques that will really have you feeling smart.

In this module, you will continue to polish your recording and editing techniques.

You’ll sharpen your AUDIO CHOPS by learning how to record and edit episode teasers, intros, segments, host and cohost, and remote interviews. You'll set up an organizational system on your computer and hard drives so your recordings are always organized and readily accessible.

Wondering about transcription services to turn your podcast into blog post?!

In this module, we'll also introduce you our favorite transcription and editing tool we use with his clients to save time in post-production and to repurpose podcast episodes into blog posts. You will finish up the module learning about workflow and planning podcast episodes.

As this week comes to a close, and you sit back and listen to your first episode in headphones, you’ll likely feel giddy and maybe even struck with disbelief.  “Wow, my voice sounds sexy, if I do say so myself.”

6

FINISHING TOUCHES & PRE-LAUNCH COUNTDOWN

“Alright, now this is getting real.  It was all fun and games last week when I was comfortable alone in my headphones, but people are really going to be listening to this.”

There’s two types of anxiety, the good kind and the bad kind.  This is the good kind.  You’re days away from stepping on to stage and releasing your first episodes for people to enjoy.

Here on module six, you’ve developed a whole new set of skills and confidence that will quickly combat any stage fright.

And, luckily, this module is designed to keep you busy with fun stuff.

  • You’ll finalize your podcast mixes and learn about Mastering and Prepping your final episodes as audio files in the right format, with a professional output and loudness level.
  • You’ll create some eye-catching and engaging promotional graphics. episode artwork, and audiograms.
  • You’ll craft a promotional schedule and fill your posts with well-designed and magnetic copy.
  • Wondering about podcasting SEO and how to appear in the first page of Google searches?! We have a whole lesson for you in this module.
  • Finally, you’ll prepare to celebrate and enjoy the Launch Party Event that you’ve planned.
